Physiotherapy in uncertain times
I hear from my physiotherapy clients over and over how stressful life is. I am sure during the 2020 pandemic this isn’t only true for those suffering pain and injuries but, let’s be honest, having an injury never made anyone’s life less stressful or uncertain.
Following the physiotherapy assessment I always spend as much time as is required to explain the diagnosis (what the illness is) and prognosis (how the illness will behave in the future). This important step has become even more crucial as it is clear to me that I can see the relief from stress as well as pain on peoples expression as this process continues.
Uncertainty and stress
People, even adventurous risk takers, like a bed rock of things in their life they can rely on work, hobbies, family and friends. Many of these things have been shaken up and become less certain with COVID-19 and lockdown.
One other thing people know they can usually rely on is their body this makes the impact of an injury not only a physical but emotional problem. Booking a physio appointment can feel like another thing to worry about but knowing when and how you can be pain free and back to full fitness is well worth this effort.
